English Conversation

WHEN: Mondays 1pm - 3pm
WHERE: Room 340 at the Caring Place
DESCRIPTION: A program for women with English as a second language.

Membership required.

Communication has always been my passion. Reading, writing, printing and speaking fall into Arts and Sciences in my personal dictionary.  Beautiful and necessary, language connects us.

I was about 10 years old when I entered a public speaking competition and won.  I still have my dented, tarnished trophy.  My great Aunt Flo was a teacher in a one-room school house in the early 1900's.  Not only did she teach the 3R's, ("Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic"), her curriculum included making sure students, ages 10 - 25, had good shoes.  English was her passion too.

Hot Ink Creative Writing for Teens

WHEN: Wednesdays
TIME: 3pm to 5pm
WHERE: Richmond High School (7171 Minoru Blvd), Room 105

DESCRIPTION: A creative writing program for teen girls that encompasses writing exercises & activities, workshopping sessions, field trips, and the publication of a year-end magazine.

FACILITATOR: MELISSA SAWATSKY

Melissa writes in a variety of genres, including poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, and screenwriting. She has a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from UBC and also participated in The Writer’s Studio certificate program at SFU.

Her work has appeared in a variety of publications, including OCW Magazine, Quills, Sad Mag, Rhubarb, and emerge 2006. She is excited about the opportunity to facilitate the growth of emerging female writers through the Hot Ink program.

 
Internet Community Access Program - (CAP)

COST: No charge.
WHEN: Mon-Thurs. 10:00am to 4:00pm
WHERE: RWRC

RWRC is partnering with Vancouver Community Net (VCN) to provide Internet access for women who experience barriers to accessing information and communication technologies. CAP is a partnership with the Government of Canada.

Volunteers and staff are available to assist you.

Our CAP site is open to all women - Computer, Printer and Scanner use available.

Drop-in use available, but appointment recommended - call: 604.279.7060

A FREE 3 Month Intensive Work-Readiness program including:

  • Business English Conversation and Writing
  • Workshops in Job Search skills, Vocational and Educational advice

Sarah Ross is the facilitator of the RWRC's Work Ready program, which is now in its eleventh season and is growing evermore popular.

With the help of RWRC's instructors and administrative staff, Sarah is achieving her goal of helping previously unemployable women get hired in today’s competitive work force.
