MARIELLE DEMORESTMarielle has been active in women's issues since 1970. She is the co-founder of the Richmond Women's Centre and has continued as a Board member since its inception in 1976. Marielle currently participates in a variety of community committees and is winner of the 2002 Volunteer Richmond's Community Service Award. COLLEEN GLYNNColleen joined the Board in 2007 and is our President. She has resided in Richmond since 1975. Colleen has a BA in Political Science from UBC and a Masters in Mass Communications from Leicester University in England. Colleen is a long-time feminist, has served on Board of Directors of Everywoman's Health Centre and was President of CHIMO Richmond Crisis Centre for four years. She currently works at Worksafe BC. BARB KNODELBarb joined the Board in 2008 as our Treasurer. She brings 34 years of office/ secretarial/accounting experience having worked for a major steel company. Currently Barb works for the Richmond School District as a business assistant at McMath Secondary. She has been on the Union Job Evaluation Committee for CUPE Local 716 for four years. "I believe that I have a lot to offer to the Richmond Women’s Resource Centre. I have volunteered within the Richmond community for over 30 years. I raised 2 daughters in Richmond, who are now 29 and 27 years old, so I am aware of the many struggles that face women. I would like to get involved with a worthy organization to give something back to the community." LINDA RAMSEYLinda has been a board member since 2009, and part of the Richmond community since 1990, raising three children with her husband Robin. She has a BA in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, and is currently a part-time student at Simon Fraser University working towards a Certificate in Counseling and Human Development. Linda works full time coordinating a provincial resource program for families with a deaf family member, but makes time to volunteer and give back to her community through her involvement with CHIMO Crisis Services, and the activities of the Richmond Women’s Resource Centre. MARY SCOTTIn 2006, I retired, after 25 years of service, as a nurse, from the BC Cancer Agency. Since that time I have been volunteering with Richmond’s Seniors Wellness Clinics and as an Information and Referral Volunteer for Seniors at Volunteer Richmond. Women’s rights and issues, specifically as related to Seniors, are areas that I am interested in. My being on the Board of the Women’s Resource Centre, will give me the opportunity to serve this community more fully. On a personal note: Originally from Montreal, I have lived in Richmond for twenty plus years. I am a hiker, quilter, sewer and knitter. I am the mother of three adult children and grandmother of six. IVETA WILLIAMSIveta joined the Board in 2008. She brings 27 years of office/secretarial experience, having worked for an insurance company and in a variety of jobs, including planning and coordinating events and social functions. Currently Iveta works for the Richmond School District as a senior secretary at McMath Secondary. She was Union Secretary for CUPE Local 716 for four years. "I believe that I have a lot to offer to the Richmond Women’s Resource Centre. I left home at sixteen and was lucky to be helped by a women’s shelter in Ontario. I raised my daughter, who is now 24 years old, as a single parent, so I am aware of the many struggles that face women. I have been helped in many ways during my life and now I would like to get involved with a worthy organization to return something back to the community." RAMINA KAURRamina is a Masters of Counselling Psychology candidate through Athabasca University. She completed her Bachelors in Psychology with a minor in Counselling and Human Development through SFU, and her Certificate in Counselling through UBC. Ramina has engaged in feminist work for several years within her own community and is passionate about social justice, counselling, mental health advocacy, and community development. She stands on the board for two other organizations, including SAMHAA (South Asian Mental Health Action and Awareness). Ramina currently works with a non-profit organization in Richmond, B.C., supporting South Asian seniors. She is involved in numerous community projects and is joyous about her affiliation to RWRC. KAYNAAZ DHOLOOKay's interest in the non-profit sector started at 12 years of age when her neighbour approached her to help with organizing programs for deaf youth. The passion to help people has driven her to earn an International Merit Scholarship and to complete her Masters degree in International governance and business from Monterey Institute of International Studies. Currently, Kay writes funding proposals for seniors and immigrant programs. She also serves as a Mentor for women seeking to re-enter the workplace. She is a business process analyst and thoroughly enjoys interviewing, researching and designing efficient systems for businesses. Kay thrives in working with diverse group of people and has worked in Germany, US, India and Thailand. She is fluent in French, Hindi and Gujarati. In her spare time, Kay enjoys hiking, traveling and learning to dance. KATRINA LAUBorn in Vancouver and raised in Richmond, Katrina has been an active volunteer for non-profit organizations since 2000. In the past, she has volunteered for various organizations such as S.U.C.C.E.S.S., BC Children's Hospital, Thompson Community Centre and the UBC International House. Katrina has a BA and BEd from UBC and is currently employed with the Richmond School District, as a teacher at Matthew McNair Secondary. In her spare time, Katrina likes to volunteer, play badminton and table tennis and learn new languages. She hopes to contribute to such a meaningful organization and gain more knowledge about women's issues. She believes in the importance of giving back to the community and being a positive role model. GEMMA HUIGemma has been on our board since last year as youth volunteer.
