Mission Statement

To provide a supportive environment in which all women are encouraged and enabled to achieve their fullest potential.

History

The Richmond Women's Resource Centre was formed in 1976 and became a non-profit association with Charitable Tax Status in 1989.

The location of the centre has varied over the years from basements, church halls, and trailers, to three different city owned houses. In 1994, along with approximately twenty other agencies, we moved into the Caring Place.

LINDSAY SETZER - Board President

Lindsay joined the Board in 2008. She has lived in Richmond since 1980 and raised her two daughters here. Two years ago she retired from her job as Director of the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre, a provincial mental health facility based in Burnaby that serves the youth and families of all of BC. As a feminist Lindsay has been involved in advocating for women's rights and was a member of the Women's Monument Committee that created and built the Women's Monument at Thornton Park in Vancouver, a memorial to 14 young women murdered in Montréal in 1989 and to all women murdered by men. At present Lindsay is a Board Member at PLEA Community Services Society and part of a working group endeavoring to fund and develop a Global Women’s Memorial on the World Wide Web.

From mid September 2007 till the end of January 2008, Lindsay worked for the Richmond Women's Resource Centre as the Administrative Manager and assisted in hiring and training the new manager. "I am honored to be considered as a Board member of the Richmond Women's Resource Centre. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you to improve the lives of women and their families in our community."

COLLEEN GLYNN - Vice President

Colleen joined the Board in 2007. She has resided in Richmond since 1975. Colleen has a BA in Political Science from UBC and a Masters in Mass Communications from Leicester University in England. Colleen is a long-time feminist, has served on Board of Directors of Everywoman's Health Centre and was President of CHIMO Richmond Crisis Centre for four years. She currently works as an Administrative Assistant at Worksafe BC.

REG BRENNAN - Secretary

Reg joined the Board in 2007. She has been a Richmond resident for 20 years and works full time for the Public Service Alliance of Canada as a Regional Representative. She is a feminist with a long history of activism in the struggle against the oppression of women, mostly through her involvement with her union.
